The New Jersey EMT Refresher C Course meets the continuing education requirements for EMT recertification as defined by the New Jersey Office of Emergency Medical Services (NJOEMS) and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). This course focuses on trauma assessment, management, operational considerations, and special population needs essential to EMT practice.
Content includes a review of anatomy and physiology as it relates to traumatic injury, along with the pathophysiology of trauma, including kinematics of injury, blunt and penetrating trauma, and falls. Participants will reinforce patient assessment skills with emphasis on traumatic injuries.
Treatment topics include bleeding and hemorrhage control, splinting and traction, use of immobilization devices, patient packaging, and special considerations for geriatric patients and pediatric car seat use. Operational content addresses mechanical restraints, trauma triage and fly-versus-drive criteria, and application of New Jersey state protocols. Special population considerations include sports-related injuries.
