NJ EMT patch

 

The New Jersey EMT Refresher A Course meets the  continuing education requirements for EMT recertification as defined by the New Jersey Office of Emergency Medical Services (NJOEMS) and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). This course reviews essential airway, respiratory, patient assessment, treatment, and operational principles critical to EMT practice.

Topics include airway and respiratory anatomy and pathophysiology, respiratory-focused patient assessment and vital signs, and effective patient communication. Treatment content covers airway and respiratory interventions such as oral and nasal airways, suctioning, BVM ventilation, CPAP/PEEP, oxygen delivery systems, nebulizer and MDI administration (including albuterol), and tracheostomy care. Operational concepts addressed include patient movement, scene safety, mass casualty incidents, triage, appropriate use of lights and sirens, ambulance climate control, patient packaging, and family communication.

 

Prerequisites:

You are required to have a valid BLS CPR certification to take this course. The state department of health outlines which BLS certifications they will accept for their purposes. Please click here to see a list of which ones they approve for this purpose.

You will be required to upload a copy of your CPR card while registering for the class.

 

NJ EMT Patch

 

The New Jersey EMT Refresher B Course meets the continuing education requirements for EMT recertification as defined by the New Jersey Office of Emergency Medical Services (NJOEMS) and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). This course reviews medical, assessment, treatment, operational, and special population considerations essential to EMT practice.

Content includes a review of anatomy and physiology related to the cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, renal, endocrine, gastrointestinal, and obstetric systems, along with the pathophysiology of common medical emergencies such as cardiac, neurologic, diabetic, allergic, environmental, and overdose-related conditions.

Treatment topics include CPR and AED use, mechanical CPR, post-resuscitation care, blood glucose monitoring, and medication administration including epinephrine auto-injectors, naloxone, and aspirin. Operational content addresses LVAD awareness, exposure control, HIPAA compliance, and New Jersey state protocols. Special population considerations include elder and child abuse, patients with special needs, psychiatric emergencies, human trafficking, infectious diseases, POLST, and childbirth-related concerns.

The New Jersey EMT Refresher C Course meets the continuing education requirements for EMT recertification as defined by the New Jersey Office of Emergency Medical Services (NJOEMS) and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). This course focuses on trauma assessment, management, operational considerations, and special population needs essential to EMT practice.

Content includes a review of anatomy and physiology as it relates to traumatic injury, along with the pathophysiology of trauma, including kinematics of injury, blunt and penetrating trauma, and falls. Participants will reinforce patient assessment skills with emphasis on traumatic injuries.

Treatment topics include bleeding and hemorrhage control, splinting and traction, use of immobilization devices, patient packaging, and special considerations for geriatric patients and pediatric car seat use. Operational content addresses mechanical restraints, trauma triage and fly-versus-drive criteria, and application of New Jersey state protocols. Special population considerations include sports-related injuries.
